The Bestival has won a prestigious award in the highly acclaimed UK Festival Awards 2006. Receiving the prize for ‘best medium to large festival’, the Robin Hill based event was recognised for its unique and innovative atmosphere as well as its eclectic line up, consisting of international stars and an array of up and coming bands and DJs.
Headlined by the Pet Shop Boys and the Scissor Sisters, the third annual Bestival was a runaway success, receiving widespread recognition from critics and fans alike. This award follows similar success last year, where the festival won the award for the ‘best medium size festival’.
In an event to celebrate the artists and event organisers of the music festivals in 2006, awards were also given to several top bands who played at the Nokia sponsored Isle of Wight Festival. Primal Scream won best feel good act, The Kooks claimed breakthrough act, while in a result that comes as little surprise to those in attendance, The Prodigy won best dance act. The Isle of Wight Festival was also nominated for best major festival, but was pipped by T in the Park.
The Bestival’s triumph is apt recognition for the extravagant showpiece which took over Robin Hill between the 8th and 10th of September, and will surely now act as an incentive to make next year’s event even better.
