Renewable energy company Cornwall Light and Power has revealed that it plans to appeal against the refusal of planning permission to develop a wind farm at Cheverton Down near Shorwell.
It follows a decision by Isle of Wight Council to turn down the planning application last December. The company hopes to erect three wind turbines which it says would generate enough electricity to power 4,700 homes. The site has been contested since 1993, when permission was granted permission for three turbines with an overall tip height of 45.5m. This was followed by a variation of condition in 2003 which increased the overall tip height to 52m and increased the combined total capacity from 0.9MW to 1.8MW.
