APPEAL AFTER HOSPICE CHARITY TIN STOLEN IN SUSPECTED BURGLARY IN RYDE

Police are appealing for information after a charity tin was reported stolen from a post office on the Isle of Wight.

It is alleged someone removed the tin from Mellish’s Post Office in Ryde High Street sometime between 1.10pm and 5.00pm on Saturday, June 20, 2009.

The blue and yellow coloured tin, which belonged to the Isle of Wight Earl Mountbatten Hospice, is estimated to have contained between £30 and £40 at the time it was reported stolen.

A man was seen acting suspiciously near the Post Office at approximately 4.30pm on Saturday, June 20, 2009.
He is described as:
● 30-40 years old
● Stocky build
● 5 ft 3-5 ins tall
● White
● Scruffy looking with a local, southern accent
● He had short hair covered by a white floppy hat with a rim all of the way round and possibly wearing a bomber jacket.
● He had with him two white carrier bags, which appeared to be quite full.

Anyone with information, or who saw someone acting suspiciously near Mellish’s Post Office in Ryde High Street on Saturday, June 20, is asked to phone Ryde Police Station on 101 or 0845 045 45 45, or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
