YARMOUTH PIER TO CLOSE FOR RESTORATION WORKS TO BEGIN
Yarmouth Pier will close on 3 December, for restoration. Gribble worms have been attacking the historic structure and now the 54 piles which support it need to be replaced. Contractors Walcon Marine Ltd will undertake the work, using large engineering barges. Vessels are requested to keep well clear of the area. Harbour Master Chris Lisher said, “Thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund and the generosity of local and mainland individuals and companies, the work on the pier can now commence”. The pier will be re-opened by broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh, on the morning of 26 April.
