The sixth annual Pickled Onion Wars was recently held at the Woodvale pub in Gurnard, with an enticing array of spicy treats on offer.
The unique event, which raises money for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, saw almost 40 jars of pickled onions entered and sampled by judges, including organiser Terry Ashdown. The event is predicted to have raised over £5000 for the charity
In the hotly contested contest, first prize went to Richard Green, whose red hot pickled onions contained extracts from Dorset Naga, the hottest chillies in the world. Another of Richard’s jars also shared second place with the offering from Woodvale licensee Sue Brockwell.
