UNDERWATER ARCHAEOLOGY AT 8000 YEAR OLD SITE
An intensive study of one of the world’s most important underwater archaeological sites, just off the Isle of Wight, will begin on Monday. Divers from the Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology will be returning to the submerged Mesolithic spot, hoping to reveal more of its submerged secrets. The 8000 year old site off Bouldnor, near Yarmouth, was discovered in 1988. Divers surveying the seabed spotted a lobster pushing worked flint tools out of its burrow and realised its importance. Professionals and volunteers will work together, underwater and on the land, carrying out new excavations and processing finds. For more details visit www.hwtma.org.uk
