UNDERCLIFF DRIVE SCHEME BACK TO CABINET
The final decision on the future of the Undercliff Drive road scheme will be made by the IW Council's Cabinet tonight. Members meet at 6pm, at County Hall. One of the options being considered is for a newly improved road that could run through Whitwell, linking southern areas of the Island. Compulsory purchase orders could also be abandoned, alongside a proposal to shelve the controversial scheme to repair and upgrade the landslide-hit road. It follows controversy surrounding the way the contract to upgrade the route was awarded to the firm High Point Rendel and the departure of a number of high profile council officers. A full report on the investigation into their conduct is due on 29 November.
