Public transport on the Island is soon to be given a luxury upgrade with the launch of seven new Mercedes Benz Citaro coach-style buses.
The vehicles, which will travel on the Newport-Ryde route, will not only offer coach style comfort with air conditioning, but are also compliant with the latest vehicle emission standards.
The new fleet comes at a cost of £1 million, but is expected to be a worthy investment which will make bus travel a more customer friendly experience. The Citaro model has already proved to be popular with bus users on the mainland, and it is hoped that they may encourage people to leave their cars at home and do their bit for the environment by using public transport.
At 12 metres long, the buses are the first full size single deck buses to be brought to the island for over thirty years, and will increase the number of low floor buses from 24 to 31.
The buses are expected to be delivered in May, so will also be in place for the throngs of tourists heading to the Island this summer.
