The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival is Back!

Newchurch once again became the buzzing centre for the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival, back by popular demand. Last year when organisers Newchurch Parish Sports and Community Association decided not to continue running of the festival, after 21 years it was thought another popular Island event would be lost. However with thanks to Colin Boswell IW Garlic Farm owner, businessman David Holmes and a range of other island businesses the festival continued bigger and better than ever.

The entertainment line up was exceptional with highlights being Clem Curtis and the Foundations and cockney duo Chas 'N' Dave, also an appearance from comedian Vic Reeves eating raw garlic for the filming of BBC2's The Truth About Food drew a crowd.

The festival is simply a celebration of food, with the now nationally renouned Isle of Wight Garlic at the centre. Food stalls covered a variety of culinary delights from garlic themed snacks such as garlic beer, garlic corn on the cob and even garlic ice cream. There were also BBQ sausages and burgers, a hog roast, chinese cuisine, juice and cider stalls, tea and coffee with cakes, sweets, and gateaux.

Thousands of people queued to join in the festival on both days despite the weather which improved on the Sunday. Event organiser Rosemarie Norman said: "Everyone is pleased we are back, it's been a long hard slog but thankfully we've had everyone behind us and want to say a big thank you to all the businesses and visitors that have made it a big success. Ive no idea why so many people wanted to come here this year but obviously its encouraging and, fingers crossed, we shall host it again next year."
