Tall Poppies hit the Island!
Set to wow Ryde this Friday, one of the hottest new bands around are on their way…

Twas the winter, of 2006, that twins Susan and Catherine Hay landed in swinging London with a bass, a guitar and a broken PC. They have been writing songs since they were nine and thought it was about time someone other than the magpies outside heard them.
The Tall Poppies are from Perth, Australia. So let’s not pretty this up now, for what they lack in enviable roots they make up for in charisma. There is indeed no-holds-barred at this party, and everyone’s invited.
They’re blissfully out of step with current fashions, but aren’t all the best bands?

Although most bands think they are unique, few are. Tall Poppies, twins Susan and Catherine, are possibly inimitable. Their music is whimsically clever and the lyrical storytelling is enigmatically amusing while grasping the imagination and daring it to think outside the circle of the CD.

Combining pop, with theatre and literature, all wound up with themes - such as love, lust and jealousy - that expose the magnificence that is the ripe female mind. Think Tanya Donnelly, Joni Mitchell, Edie Brickell, think Tall Poppies.

The Tall Poppies have such a diverse array of styles on their debut release Thursday that it plays more like an utterly charming slide show of memories rather than an 11 track disc. With almost the entire album flush with dual vocals, this album dips between lounge music, pop and folk, with brilliantly crafted ditties.

Tall Poppies, debut album is an atypical recording with an unconditionally mature sensibility. It’s like reading an anthology of subtly complex, great short stories. Each tale has a fruity flavor, unique character and infinite delicacy. Imagine watching Chocolat while sucking on a piece of Amedei Chuao and you’ll understand the sensuality in Tall Poppies music.

If you like expressive, idiosyncratic, quirky lyrics, dilettantish music and meticulous production style, you’ll adore Thursday,
Live, the band is intriguing, oozing style and confidence. The truly unique blend of twin vocals have been described as (all the usual positive adjectives) “Amazing’, “Awesome” “Fantastic” “able to send one straight to the clouds” and send “shivers down the spine”.

They are a cool and comfortably quirky band with the know how to transport one to a dimension of euphoria. Tall Poppies songs address the everyday and the unusual; they balance the comical with the melancholic..... Appealing to all sorts.

Overall, the Tall Poppies debut release is……..Music that’s pure sex for the ears.

“Don’t believe me…………....Just give The Tall Poppies a spin
