A new web based service run by Islanders for Islanders is hoping to revolutionise the way we learn new skills.
SkillSwap is a non-profit service that enables people to offer their talents and skills to others on the Isle of Wight. What makes the concept truly unique, however, is that rather than getting paid for teaching your skill, you learn another skill in exchange.
The service works by members listing the skills that they would like to learn, alongside the skills that they have to offer. When two members have complimentary skills that they would like to exchange, the website allows them to make contact and discuss how they can best help one another.
The site has been developed by Fire-island limited, an island based organisation looking to become established as a creator of innovative social based websites. The only requirement of people looking to join the website is that all skills offered on SkillSwap must made available in the context of teaching the skills for free, in exchange for learning other skills.
In addition to providing the capability for you to exchange your talents with others, the site is hoping to become an interactive hub where you can meet new people and ultimately gain a great sense of enjoyment and satisfaction. So, if you have special talents you can share with other people – be it playing the guitar, an expert golf swing, or absolutely any other ability – or if you have the need or desire to learn a new skill, visit the website at www.skillswap.info.
