Scullers Head of the River Race

Three members of the Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club competed in the Scullers Head of the River Race on the Thames last Saturday (2nd December).

The race covered four and a half miles, from its start at Mortlake to the finish line at Putney.

While the results of all three Island competitors exceeded expectation, the best performance came from Ollie Bottrell. Competing in the Men's Novice section, he started at 38th position and finished in 2nd place, in a time of 21 minutes 34 seconds. This great display meant Ollie only just missed out on the Novice Pennant awarded to 1st place, which was won by the same person as last year.

Ryde's Hants & Dorset Senior Sculling Champion Nick Pike, competing in the Men's Veteran C section and starting in 65th position, finished the course in a time of 21 minutes 57 seconds - 5th in his status.

Mike Jenner, competing as a Veteran B Sculler and starting in 112th position, completed the course in 22 minutes 20 seconds - 11th in his status.

Congratulations to all three Island competitors for an excellent display.
