SERVICE TO MARK ISLAND'S WORST AIR CRASH
A special service will mark 50 years since a flying boat crashed on the Isle of Wight, shortly after taking off in Southampton water. More than forty people died when the craft came down in a quarry near Brook, after developing engine trouble. A memorial takes place at St Mary’s Church in Brook, on Sunday, conducted by the Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight, the Ven Caroline Baston.
