Today Ryde Town Management Committee submitted a petition calling for the formation of a Parish Council which will cover the currently unparished areas of the existing Electoral Divisions of Ashey, Binstead, Ryde North West, Ryde North East, Ryde South West, Ryde South East, St. Johns West and St. Johns East.
Once the names on the petition have been checked to ensure that all signatories are registered as Local Government electors, and the petition has been debated by the Isle of Wight Council on 19th July, the petition will be passed to the Secretary Of State and the Electoral Commission.
A public meeting will be held at 7:00pm on 28th June in Ryde Theatre so that members of the public in the Ryde area can voice their views. Written submissions are also welcome, and all correspondence will be passed onto the Secretary Of State and the Electoral Commission, along with a summary of opinions from the public meeting.
The petition was formally presented to Leader of the Isle of Wight Council, Cllr Andy Sutton and Cllr Jilly Wood Cabinet Member for Resources and Town/Parish Council Empowerment at County Hall
