Rowing Club in running for prestigious award

Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club have been nominated by their National Governing Body, the Amateur Rowing Association, for the CCPR's prestigious Sports Club of the Year Award 2007.

The award, which is staged in association with the Foundation for Sports and the Arts, recognises clubs which encourage more people to take part in sport and recreation and set standards to which other clubs aspire.

The Ryde Club was put forward for the award by the Wessex Region Coaching Development Officer, who has been working closely with the club to expand their Junior section and develop links with local schools.

Having been selected from the sixteen Wessex Region clubs, the application then had to be endorsed by the Amateur Rowing Association, the Sports National Governing body, who can only nominate three clubs for the award - from over four hundred affiliated clubs.

The three nominated Rowing Clubs will now be judged alongside those clubs nominated by the other National Governing bodies of sport for the six thousand pound first prize, second prize of three thousand pounds, and third prize of one thousand pounds.

The winners will announced at a ceremony hosted by Sir Bobby Charlton at London's Grange City Hotel on the 8th May.
