An interactive website travel information tool is putting Island motorists on the right track, by allowing them to predict travel delays caused by roadworks and to plot suitable alternative routes, at the click of a mouse.
With interactive maps and photographic images, motorists driving around the Isle of Wight can now see for themselves exactly where roadworks are likely to cause delays, up to a month before they travel. The tool is so detailed it will even tell users what side of the road the works are on, who is behind them and how long they will last.
A clickable tool helps to work out an alternative route, displaying the journey on enlargeable maps, using cutting edge satellite imagery. With each click of the mouse, users will know how long the detour will take to drive.
The satellite pictures cover every inch of the Island, giving web users the chance to see their chosen route in full colour.
The travel tool was designed by Island-based software architect, Peter Gallop, for the Isle of Wight’s television station Solent TV. Peter said, “We wanted to create something that was user friendly, informative and useful, for Islanders and for visitors to the Isle of Wight.
The tool, which combines information with cutting edge technology, has just gone live on Solent TV’s website, and can be accessed at www.solent.tv.
