Ripcurl English Nationals

Several Island surfers travelled to Newquay in Cornwall to compete in the Ripcurl English Nationals events which culminated this weekend in huge and windblown conditions. Unfortuantly none of our surfers made it through to the finals in any of the Adult events, however, Zoe Sheath continued her success in surfing with a deserved second in the Ripcurl English Nationals junior event at Watergate Bay last week where she competed in the Under 18 Girls. This prestigious and long running contest is the main event for England team selection and Zoe has inreased her ranking to 2nd in England.
Surfing through the Quarter and Semi finals in small and tricky surf Zoe competed with flair and determination making the most of the conditions with her board selection.
As the swell built with the incoming tide for the finals all the youngsters put on a fantastic display of exciting and skillful surfing. Zoe was beaten by the narrowest of margins by Holly Donnelly of Newquay. Madi Johnson, also from the Isle of Wight and last year's winner came fourth after flying back from Australia especially for the contest.
