A petition of 1,250 names was raised to demand protection for wildlife following the devastation of Nine Acres Field on Golden Ridge.
Badgers, squirrels, foxes and other species have made their home in “Christmas Tree field“ for the last 30 years or more. A large area of this site has been devastated on a pretext of making a fire break.
We understand that an approach has been made, via an agent, for this site to be considered for residential development as part of the Local Development Framework 'Island Plan' process. Under the old Unitary Development Plan the field lay just outside the
“development envelope” but now that status is being reconsidered as part of the new Local Development Framework which will make
the new Island Plan.
Local people strongly oppose this, and hope that their concerns will be taken into consideration. The remainder of the trees were saved by raising an emergency tree preservation order.
