Newbridge Recreation Ground Regeneration

Newbridge Recreation Ground Regeneration
On a very wet week a team of volunteers got together to start the installation of new playground equipment at Newbridge, the previous swings having been condemned on health and safety grounds.
The new facilities include a double and single swing, a slide (that must be south facing) a springy and a mini roundabout. A modern safety fence with self- closing gates bound the area. The whole project was designed by the Clerk to Shalfleet Parish Council, John Whitney, who had to consult with various bodies and tomes in order to comply with the myriad of laws that cover these situations now. The financial backing was provided by Shalfleet Parish Council, a small amount from the lottery fund, a generous donation by an anonymous resident and money raised within the village and local area by volunteer fund raising. Teas and cakes for the workers on installation day were provided by a team of caring ladies and gratefully received.
Special thanks to our ‘Main Contractor’ Ivor Smith who with Cllr Mike Carr and Phil Morley did sterling work with diggers and spades. The official opening will be on Tuesday 13th June at 3:15 pm followed by tea and cakes in Newbridge Community Centre.
