NEW LORD LIEUTENANT FOR THE ISLAND ANNOUNCED

Major General Martin White CB, CBE, DL, has been announced as the new Lord Lieutenant for the Isle of Wight. He takes up the position in October 2006 as the Queen’s representative on the Island.

Currently the Vice Lieutenant, Major General White replaces Christopher Bland, who is stepping down after more than 10 years in the role. Born and educated on the Island, Major General White had a long and distinguished career in the army, becoming Director General of Logistic Support (Army) and head of the Royal Logistic Corps in 1995 before retiring from the service in 1998.

A defence consultant for Deloittes, Major General White is also Colonel Commandant of the Royal Logistic Corps, President of the Air Despatch Association and Honorary Colonel of 165 Port and Maritime Regiment RLC (V) as well as a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Carmen.

He was awarded the CBE in 1991 in the Gulf War Honours List, a CB in the Birthday Honours 1998 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight in January 1999.

Major General White is married to Fiona and has three sons, a daughter and eight grandchildren. His interests include offshore sailing and cricket and he is a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron, Sea View Yacht Club and the Army and Navy Club.
