LIFEBOAT APPEAL SWIMMING, NOT SINKING
A fundraising appeal to replace Ryde Inshore Rescue’s 20 year old main inshore lifeboat is well on the way to completion. The current lifeboat has been scrambled 600 times and has assisted or rescued 1,000 people. The Ryde Lions no longer meets the Department of Transport’s safety requirements, as it has one engine and the code requires two. Its crew plans to replace it with a 6.3m RIB, powered by twin 90HP outboards engines. So far, £48,000 of the £60,000 target has been raised and the boat is due to arrive shortly. With more fundraising initiatives to come in September, the goal looks certain to be reached, but if you would like to help call the Ryde Inshore Rescue secretary on 01983 613401.
