A six year old Brighstone Primary School pupil with profound hearing loss is the first to benefit from this year’s Crazy Duck Appeal.
Katie Taylor, of Bowcombe, and her parents Dawn and Paul are set to receive £900 from the charity, which will allow her to continue receiving first class aid for her speech and hearing difficulties.
Three years ago Katie had a cochlea implant, which allowed her to hear for the first time. Since that time, she has been attending a specialised mainland centre which helps her learn to interpret sounds. With this treatment Katie is gradually beginning to hear and she is also learning to speak, and the Crazy Duck donation will allow her tremendous progress to continue.
With each visit to the Auditory Verbal Therapy centre in Bicester costing around £400, the donation from Crazy Duck is a fantastic early Christmas present for the family. Indeed, with further generous funding from Wightlink, Katie’s battle to overcome her hearing difficulties has received a massive boost, and highlights the selfless nature of islanders.
