JOHN LAWSON SACKED OVER UNDERCLIFF DRIVE
The IW Council’s Deputy Chief Executive has been sacked over the Undercliff Drive scandal. John Lawson tendered his resignation on 25 October but, following a 3-day independent disciplinary hearing in September, it was decided on Monday that his failings had been too serious. He is the second officer to be sacked over the handing of a road building contract to the firm High Point Rendel. A third officer has taken early retirement and a fourth has resigned. Mr Lawson was also the authority’s Director of Policy Performance and Partnerships. The IW Council says “There will be no payment made to Mr Lawson other than his salary up until the date of his dismissal”.
