Government funds recognise impressive transport vision

The Isle of Wight Council has received a £70,000 government allocation to boost its transport plans.

Due to an impressive transport blueprint, the Government Office of the South East (GSOE) has deemed the Island deserving of funds, meaning major work can be done to continue making travelling on the Island safer and easier.

The significant donation is set to help County Hall realise its Local Transport Plan, which aims to relieve congestion in Newport, improve public transport links, and develop pedestrian and cycle routes around the Island. There are also plans to rebuild a 500-metre stretch of the deteriorating A3054 main road east of Yarmouth.

Submitted after a series of comprehensive consultation exercise across the Island, the Council’s plans were recognised by the GOSE as displaying a “strong feel for the vision of the Isle of Wight”.
