The Levellers have been confirmed as the first act set to appear at Bestival 2007.
In a surprisingly early revelation, the Brighton-based band – perhaps best known for their anthemic hit ‘What A Beautiful Day’ – have been added to the bill for the festival, which in recent years has attracted some of the biggest names in music.
Formed in 1988, The Levellers are known for their indie-rock style, and have diverse influences including Punk and Folk. Strongly interested in and outspoken about political issues, the band have built up a strong and devoted fanbase, despite being nearly universally ignored by mainstream critics.
This significant addition to next year’s Bestival is a hugely promising indication that the event at Robin Hill will be every inch as good as previous Bestivals. Indeed, with hundreds of acts to be confirmed in the coming months, the popular event is already set to be one of the highlights of 2007 on the Isle of Wight.
