END OF THE ROAD FOR UNDERCLIFF DRIVE
It has cost £2.9m pounds and a number of high profile jobs, but the IW Council’s scheme to repair and shore-up Undercliff Drive was abandoned, on Tuesday night. Cabinet members met at County Hall to consider the future of the controversial project. Council Leader David Pugh had earlier admitted there were concerns over the way money was being spent on the project. Instead, plans for an inland route through Whitwell will now be revisited and that road will be upgraded. Councillors say they will also work the Department of Transport, which had originally agreed to fund the Undercliff Drive Scheme, to consider what to do next with the Island’s southern coastal route.
