Dave O'Higgins hits Ventnor
The Isle Of Wight International Jazz Festival has attracted some great musical talent to its home in Ventnor over the years, and the line up for 2007 is stronger than ever before.
This year sees five more venues added to accommodate the wealth of musical goodies that have been programmed by Festival Musical Director Phil Snellen.
One of the most exciting performers that has agreed to play Ventnor this April is the brilliant British saxophonist Dave O'Higgins, who guests with the legendary Sax Appeal on Friday 13th April and leads his sextet for a storming afternoon session on Sunday 15th April.
Dave has performed worldwide as well as teaching the saxophone as far afield as the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Closer to home he has been a Professor of the Saxophone at both Leeds College of Music and Goldsmiths College, London. He has been involved with all manner of music education initiatives, and has inspired a new generation of young sax talent, especially with his work alongside the fabulous Jazzcotech Dancers, whose founder Perry Louis co produced Dave's hard-bopping album 'Fast Foot Shuffle'.
What started out as an impromptu jam to back the amazing acrobatic dance style of the Jazzcotech dance crew has evolved over the last few years into the partnership which takes to the stage of the new Jazz Dance Marquee on the Sunday of this year's Festival.
The performance is set to be a spectacular mix of hard driving soul-jazz, rock, funk and hard bop alongside some freeform acrobatic choreography that has wowed the crowds at jazz festivals all over the world.
This gig offers the best in British Jazz Music and Dance with unrivalled scenery and great food at hand from our Jazz Village caterers, so don't miss out!
