Newport’s Riverside Centre, the Gateway Club and the IW College’s Independent Living Skills Recycling Team were among the winners at the IW Disability Awards in Ventnor. The Isle of Wight Council’s chairman Councillor Roger Mazillius and the High Sheriff David Langford hosted the event which recognised the work of people who have overcome disability, or who have helped to make the lives of disabled people easier. It was staged to mark the International Day of the
Disabled. Councillor Mazillius said, "All winners of the awards, and the nominees, were worthy of praise and I heartily congratulate them all. It was both moving and humbling to see the amount of good work that is going on in the disability and equality arenas on the Isle of Wight and I very much look forward to this becoming an annual event on the Island's calendar."
