DARKER EVENINGS PROMPTS POLICE SAFETY MESSAGE

The clocks went back, on Saturday night. The darker evenings have prompted Hampshire Constabulary to encourage Islanders to make our homes more secure. The force says houses left in darkness can become targets for burglars.

Police officers are to post crime reduction leaflets through our letterboxes. They'll feature advice like leaving a lights on in your home will help to make it look occupied, and locking all windows and doors when you go out. Timer switches for televisions, radios and lights are also suggested.
