A new survey has revealed Islanders are opposed to proposals to extend Cowes Week into a two week event.
Eight hundred people took part in an on-line questionnaire about Cowes Week which revealed that 40% of people would support a two week event, whereas 60% said that the event should stay as a one week.
Organisers have said that the success of the event is at risk as the Solent is becoming more and more crowded with boats. Skandia Cowes Week now attracts over 1000 entries each year. However, there is now a recommendation for a separate Cowes Week-style event for classic yachts.
