Just 30.4% of Newport North’s voters turned out to make their mark on Thursday in the by-election. Conservative Peter Humber won a seat vacated by former councillor and party colleague Julian Whittaker. From Arreton, the new Councillor Humber was born and raised in Newport. He runs the Sound and Light Company, on the Dodnor Estate.

584 ballot papers took just 45 minutes to be counted in the Newport North By-Election. The final count was:

Peter Humber (Conservative) 207 Votes
Liam Verstraeten (Liberal Democrat) 189 Votes
Laraine Pascoe (Labour) 137 Votes
Daryll Pitcher (UKIP) 25 Votes
Adrian Nicholas (IND) 23 Votes
Richard Hards (IND) 2 Votes
