Brading's Neighbourhood First Responder Unit
Neighbourhood First Responder are an exciting joint initiative between the
Ambulance Service and St John Ambulance, established with the aim ot providing
a prompt and efficient response to potentially life-threatening emergencies.
The Responders are all volunteers who give freely of their own time to undertake an extensive training course, and then once trained, make themselves available to be sent to certain emergency calls in their local area. When people fall ill suddenly, they often need urgent medical attention, and time can be difference
between life and death As the Responders are already in Brading, they will often
arrive ahead of the ambulance, and therefore are able to begin the essential
treatment process earlier. As an emergency ambulance is always sent at the same
time, it is clear that the Responder Scheme is an enhancement of, and not a
replacement for, the NHS Ambulance Service.
The Brading Unit was launched on the 4th April. Thankyou to all that have supported us. First Responders are self funding by means of donations and fund-raising.
There are three other teams on the Island in Bembridge, Brightstone and East Cowes.
