The Isle of Wight’s air ambulance has paid a flying visit to Newport. Giving Islanders a chance to meet the crew and see the helicopter, it landed at St George’s Park football ground, on Wednesday. The helicopter costs £65,000 every month to stay in the air and all the cash comes from the fundraising efforts of its supporters. It can reach emergencies across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in 15 minutes and is airborne within 3 minutes of a 999 call. It has been flying since July 2007.
