What better way to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award than with a 50K walk. Planned by Carol Taverner I.W. Council D of E Development Officer four groups of participants in the scheme, together with leaders, hiked from four different starting points on the Island to Newport.
Covering a number of footpaths, the groups starting points were Cowes, Ryde,South Wight and Shorwell. Each group successfully completed each 12.5 K walk thus hiking the 50K altogether.
On arrival at St. James’ Square, Newport the four groups joined forces for a presentation. Everyone who had completed their hike was given a certificate by Carol and members of the public generously donated cash to the charity so that its work with young people may continue.
Anyone between the ages of 14 & 25 can participate in The Award. For more information contact Carol on 823490.
