Update from Councillor Ivor Warlow

Earlier this year I supported a State of the Island debate to gauge what Islanders’ concerns were, leading to an alternative Independent Budget for 2012/13. The budget sought to address fairness, re-investment and innovation. Whilst not adopted, I hope some of the proposals will evolve over the coming year. After much discussion with Parks & Gardens the ‘kick board’ in the Rest Gardens, Binstead, has been replaced and moved to a central position, many thanks to Andrew McIntyre (IW Council Officer). I am pleased to report that the No 37 bus serving Binstead, Haylands and Ryde West has been retained for the foreseeable future. Our Local Police Action Group for Binstead, Fishbourne and Wootton has recently amalgamated with Havenstreet, Ashey and Newchurch. These rural areas have low and similar crime figures. The current three objectives across the patch are speed, traffic and general crime. Wightlink are currently trialling an automated ‘check in’ system using scanners on the Fishbourne/Portsmouth route. If successful this could be rolled out across all Island routes. Fishbourne Parish Council continue to work well with the company. At the time of writing Elenors Grove, Quarr Hill and Newnham Lane were due to be surfaced dressed under the Highways scheduled programme.Ward Member for Binstead and Fishbourne
