Methodist Church reveals new community space

Work to develop Ryde’s Methodist Church has been completed, allowing the building to be used as a concert venue as well as for worship. The Garfield Road building has undergone a number of changes; pews have been removed, underfloor heating installed and it has been decorated throughout. Nick Mulhern and Simon Realey have worked tirelessly with the dedicated team from WH Brading, led by Eddie Mew their Foreman, to make sure that everything has been completed on time. Nick commented: "We’ve worked hard to retain the grandeur of the Victorian interior, while making it warmer and much more flexible to use. We hope that it will prove to be a popular venue for concerts, plays and meetings, as well as for Sunday worship." Church members and friends have been actively fundraising for many years, but the work has been made possible due to generous support from Methodist District and Connexion, plus Biffa Award, a multi-million pound environment fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT). The new worship area will be formally dedicated at a service to be led by the President of Methodist Conference, Rev Leo Osborn, on Sunday May 13. Everybody is invited to join the celebrations.
