Promoter John Giddings admitted he was responsible for the lack of a sponsor for this year’s I.W. Festival. When he approached BT they were keen for a two year deal, but he opted for a one year “try it and see” approach. Obviously, he did not foresee the recession and in hindsight he now regrets his decision, having seen BT walk away.

Adam Gosling's Yes! won pole position in IRC Class Three, Cowes resident Louise Morton and her all-girl crew took second place in IRC Three and Atomic of Cowes was third in IRC Zero. Meanwhile the young sailors on Chernikeeff 2, students from UKSA, won 3rd place in the Super Zero class.
