THROUGH FOG AND SUN TO ROUND THE ISLAND RACE VICTORY ICAP Leopard pounces on Round The Island record.
- Record entries and record times marked this year’s Round The Island Race, which took place on Saturday.  While Formula One Ace Lewis Hamilton’s Open 60 “Hugo Boss” was disqualified and Ellen MacArthur had to admit defeat in the Extreme 40s race, Mike Slade’s "ICAP Leopard" was the cause for celebration. This year’s Rolex Commodore’s Cup takes to the water at 10.30am on Monday. There has been no shortage of activity since close of challenges for the 9th biennial event.

RECORD ENTRIES FOR 2008 JPMAM ROUND THE ISLAND RACE Record breaking monohull ICAP Leopard.
- A record number of yachts are set to take part in the Round The Island Race, on Saturday.  The competition was inaugurated 77 years ago and in 2008 nearly 2000 boats are preparing to sail 55 miles around the Isle of Wight.   Olympic medalists, round-the-world skippers and even Formula One ace driver Lewis Hamilton will mix with first-time racers and family cruisers in this unique event.  The starts leave the Royal Yacht Squadron line from 6am. - Day two of the Isle of Wight Festival and The Sex Pitols are due on stage later.  Meanwhile The Kaiser Chiefs and KT Tunstall were among those on the bill yesterday, in front of a rapturous audience of around 55,000 people at Seaclose Park in Newport.

BEACH LOSES BLUE FLAG Stormy waters for Ryde beach.

Ryde East beach has lost its prestigious Blue Flag award.

The popular resort was not among the three Island beaches to be given the right to fly the flag in 2008. It wasn’t entered because of the water quality, after last year’s bad weather is being. Meanwhile, Ventnor has regained its Blue Flag.

- Cowes yachtswoman Shirley Robertson’s won the first event of the 2008 iShares Cup, beating reigning champions TEAMORIGIN.  The British leg of the event will take place in Cowes, in August.
