Take your mints...because the annual Pickle Wars are being held in Gurnard, today.

Raising money for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation, the event pits pickled onion producers jar to jar.  It takes place at The Woodvale pub and anyone who goes along can get involved in the judging process.

LOST WOOD SHIP IN SOUTHAMPTON
- The ship that shed 1500 tonnes of sawn timber into the English Channel is now alongside at Southampton's Western Docks.  It was anchored off the Isle of Wight for a time, yesterday.

ICE SAILING IN EAST WIGHT Sundays sailing proved more successful.
- When Bembridge Harbour froze at the weekend, a fleet of 10 Illusion sailors found themselves dealing with conditions usually faced by the Vendee Globe adventurers in the Southern Ocean.

- Plans for a new skate park are among those being discussed in Bembridge, from midday today.

IKEA WILL CROSS THE SOLENT Plans to turn Red Funnel yellow and blue.
- Swedish design firm IKEA will deliver to the Isle of Wight, but the company cannot yet reveal how much the service will cost customers.

CHAIN FERRY FIXED
- The Isle of Wight's chain ferry, linking West and East Cowes, is back up and running after some emergency repairs.  The floating bridge has been operating a foot-passenger only service since a collision between the slipway and ramp earlier this week. But the crossing is now back in action, in time for Friday night's rush-hour.

- A scheme to reward school attendance with free ice skating appears to have been a success.  The attendance level of middle and high school students in Ryde has risen by more than 28%.

SOLENT TRAVEL PRICE INQUIRY CONTINUES
- The Interim Managing Director of Red Funnel James Cooper; and the Chief Executive of Hovertravel Ian May, along with the firm’s Financial Director Peter White and Director Richard Box, are due to give evidence to the IW Council’s policy commission investigation into the cost of cross-Solent travel services.
