- An Isle of Wight woman passionate about books has become the only person in the country to complete a modern apprenticeship in library work. On Thursday, Selina Smith will be presented with her Modern Apprenticeship certificate.

- Management changes have been announced at The Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) with the appointment of Eddie Warden Owen as its Chief Executive Officer from late February and Ian Loffhagen as the new Racing Manager.

WAITROSE SHOPS FOR EAST COWES PUBLIC OPINION Cowes Floating Bridge, a local icon
- More will be revealed about plans to transform East Cowes town centre, on Friday and Saturday. An exhibition is to be held in the town on 29 February and 1 March.

- Maintenance and repair work is underway at Yarmouth Bridge. It began on 16 February and will continue until 2 March.

EDUCATION CONSULTATION CONTINUES AFTER MOTION DEFEATED Protestors gather outside County Hall at the start of the consultation process
- Consultation over the future of education on the Isle of Wight will continue, after a motion to force the IW Council to reconsider its plans was defeated, on Wednesday night.  Members of the full council met to consider a motion proposed by Cllr Patrick Joyce.

- The organisers of the 2006 Isle of Wight Walking Festival Speed Dating Walk are celebrating their first weddings.  Two couples have already tied the knot after taking part in the event, with a third wedding to follow in 2009.

ISLE OF WIGHT SCHOOL PUPILS URGED TO GO SQUARE TO SQUARE The challenge logo.
- A charity effort by Island firefighters to raise at least £25,000 for hospital equipment by cycling between Newport and Rome is gathering pace. As well as raising charity cash, the team is keen to highlight the benefits of keeping fit. This month, they will visit Island schools, as part of the national Go-Ride cycling development programme. They will explain to pupils how they can get involved and complete their own mini Square to Square.

PAINTED PEBBLES PLAN FOR LEISURE CENTRE
- An Awards for All lottery grant is set to help the West Wight Sports Centre refurbish its gardens. £10,000 will be spent repainting pebbles, which were placed outside the Freshwater building in 2003 by children from four local schools, as well as on planting and fencing.

PAN DEVELOPMENT COMMENTS ANALYSED
- The contributions of 150 Pan residents are being analysed, after a recent public meeting over the Pan Urban Development. Developers Miller Homes say they will soon be sharing their findings with the Isle of Wight Council and the project team.

- For the second year running, the independent Audit Commission says the Isle of Wight Council is 'improving well'.  However, it has found improvement in education is mixed and achievements remain below standard.
